About Braces

Types of Braces

There are numerous companies that manufacture braces, each trying to design a more comfortable and efficient version. Most of the options are quite similar with several exceptions. Dr. Y continuously researches new products to ascertain which appliance system provides the greatest benefit to the patient and doctor. We offer several types of braces in our office:

1. Traditional metal braces – smallest; uses alastics (colored rubber bands) to engage the wire into the slot of the braces.
   
2. Self-ligating braces – 25% bulkier than the traditional braces but allows for decreased treatment duration and shorter office visits.
   
3. Self-ligating ceramic braces – combines esthetics and efficiency.
   
   
4. Lingual (tongue-side) braces – the most esthetic option
   
5. Invisalign – not really braces (refer to the Invisalign Section)
