Oral Hygiene Instructions
Enforcing good oral hygiene habits early in a child’s life is essential for his overall well-being. Proper oral hygiene habits must start as early as the child begins to bottle feed. We educate and enforce the importance of proper brushing, flossing and the application of preventive products for your child's needs.
Eating well for a healthy mouth.
Nutrition plays a key role in the development and maintenance of a healthy mouth, especially the teeth and gums. The food we eat affects our teeth. At the same time, the health or lack of health of our teeth and gums affects what we can eat. Dr. Y will review and discuss your child's nutritional habits, he may also recommend some changes and the way to approach them.
Periodic Oral Examination
Dr. Y's periodic oral exam is a necessary part of your continuing care appointment to help keep your teeth and gums healthy. Dr. Y may also perform a visual and digital examination of lymph nodes throughout the face and neck looking for any abnormalities, pain, or flexibility within the nodes that could be markers for disease.
Likewise, a similar examination of your lips, gums, tongue and other internal mouth surfaces will be conducted, again looking for various signs of illness or disease.
A periodic dental oral evaluation is a valuable part of your preventative health maintenance plan, and Dr. Y's exam is a great ally in keeping an eye out for illness you may not know you even possess.
Once a year
Dental Radiographs are commonly called x-rays. Dr Y uses radiographs as a diagnostic tool to find hidden cavities, dental structures, malignant or benign masses, and bone loss.
It is possible for both tooth decay and periodontal disease to be missed during a clinical exam, and a radiographic evaluation of the dental and periodontal tissues is a critical segment of the comprehensive oral examination.
Intraoral radigraphs are recommended once a year.
The Periapical View is taken of both anterior and posterior teeth. The objective of this type of view is to capture the tip of the root on the film. This is often helpful in determining the cause of pain in a specific tooth, because it allows a dentist to visualize the tooth as well as the surrounding bone in their entirety.
The Bitewing View is taken to visualize the crowns of the posterior teeth and the height of bone in relation to the cementoenamel junctions, which are the demarcation lines on the teeth which separate tooth crown from tooth root. Routine bitewing radiographs are commonly used to examine for interdental caries and recurrent caries under existing restorations.
Digital Panoramic X-Ray
Every 5 Years
Panoramic films are extraoral films, in which the film is exposed while outside the patient's mouth.
Dr. Y uses panoramic films to evaluate growth, eruption pattern, and to detect and localize mandibular fractures and other pathologic entities of the mandible.
Our office's "Continuing Dental Care Program" starts with your child's first visit, which Dr. Y recommends to have by age 2.
Each of our patients has a different story, with different obstacles and unique
oral care needs. Our Continuing Care program is designed to help your child achieve better oral health.
We are looking forward to being your child's "DENTAL HOME'
